Community and Environmental Justice Group
▼Previous Meetings
Columbia River Crossing formed the Community and Environmental Justice Group
(CEJG) to achieve the goal of meaningful public involvement in the project
development process.
Representing the community
CEJG members came from neighborhoods in the project area and included
representatives of environmental justice communities and at-large members. They
represented the diverse interests and perspectives of Vancouver, Portland and
Hayden Island neighborhoods potentially affected by the project.
Engaging the community
CEJG met 33 times between 2006 and 2009 and hosted an environmental
justice training for community members in 2010. The group helped the project
identify issues of community and environmental justice concern. Their ideas
helped improve project outreach plans and materials. The group’s work
included:
- Providing the CRC with feedback on how to improve public involvement
efforts and what communities to increase outreach toward.
- Identifying community resources that were analyzed in the
Draft
Environmental Impact Statement.
- Helping create a guide for the public to better understand the Draft
Environmental Impact Statement, in addition to providing comments on the
document.
