Replacement Bridge with Light Rail

Draft Replacement bridge rendering
Draft Replacement Bridge Rendering
November 27, 2007
A new I-5 replacement bridge would be built downstream (west) of the existing bridge location to carry I-5 traffic, light rail, express buses and bicycles and pedestrians across the Columbia River. The new bridge would be a fixed-span structure with no bridge lift. This bridge option would provide three through-travel lanes and two or three auxiliary lanes for entering and exiting the highway in each direction.

Eventually, the existing bridges would be removed once the new bridge opens to traffic.

Light rail would operate on a double-track extension from the Expo Center MAX Station in Portland to the Kiggins Bowl area in Vancouver. Express and local bus service is combined with light rail to better serve transit needs in and beyond the project area. Express buses would serve long distance commuter markets by providing direct access between Clark County and downtown Portland during morning and evening peak commute hours. Local bus service in Vancouver would increase to serve new transit passengers.

Exact transit alignment(s), terminals, and park and ride facilities will be refined during the environmental impact statement process.
