High Capacity Transit Alignments
Several different routes are being considered for high capacity transit between
Vancouver and Portland. The choices focus on
three areas –
Hayden Island,
downtown
Vancouver and
north of downtown Vancouver.
Transit alignment options for Hayden Island
There are two options for Hayden Island.
Both options would connect to the MAX
station at the Expo Center in North
Portland. The choices for heading north are
dependent on the whether a new supplemental
bridge is built west of the existing I-5
bridge, or whether a replacement bridge is
built either east or west of the existing
location.
Along I-5, downstream bridge
Transit would travel along I-5 near N. Center Avenue, with a station next to I-5.
It would cross the Columbia River on a new bridge west of the existing I-5
bridge.
N. Jantzen Beach Center, downstream bridge
Transit would travel beside the Jantzen Beach SuperCenter with a station near
the mall. It would cross the Columbia River on a new bridge just west of the
existing I-5 bridge. This route was used to study transit performance in the
project area and is called the representative alignment.
Transit alignment options through downtown Vancouver
There are two alignment options through
downtown Vancouver to 16th Street or McLoughlin.
Broadway-Washington
Northbound transit would travel on Broadway and southbound transit would travel
on Washington Street.
Washington two-way
Both northbound and southbound transit would travel on Washington Street. This
route was used to study transit performance in the project area and is called
the representative alignment.
Transit options north of downtown Vancouver
There are four options north of downtown Vancouver to the end of the route. Two
options travel on streets north to a park and ride facility at 39th Street. The
other options travel east to Clark College and then north along I-5 to a park
and ride near the Kiggins Bowl parking lot.
Broadway two-way
From McLoughlin, transit would travel on Broadway to Main Street and continue on
Main Street to a park and ride at 39th Street.
Broadway-Main
Northbound transit would travel on Broadway and southbound transit would travel
on Main Street from McLoughlin to 29th Street. From there, both northbound
and southbound transit would travel on Main Street to a park and ride at 39th
Street.
16th St., along I-5
Transit would travel on 16th Street to the eastside of I-5 near Clark College
and then continue north to a park and ride near the Kiggins Bowl parking lot.
McLoughlin, along I-5
Transit would travel on McLoughlin to the eastside of I-5 near Clark College and
then continue north along the eastside of I-5 to a park and ride near the
Kiggins Bowl parking lot. This route was used to study transit performance in
the project area and is called the representative alignment.
