Hayden Island Light Rail Station Workshop
September 2009
On September 30, the Portland Working Group (PWG) hosted a community workshop
to gather input for the design of the future light rail station on Hayden
Island. About 50 people attended the workshop. Architects and urban designers
worked with the PWG members and community to develop principles to guide the
future design work.
Following a presentation of station design principles, the attendees were
split into four groups and asked to review three design scenarios (elevated,
gateway and plaza) and provide input on six design areas:
- Station position and type
- Height and vertical circulation
- Pedestrian and bike connectivity
- Relationship to adjacent streets and development
- Station architecture and gateway treatments
- Safety and security
Feedback from the workshop will be considered by the PWG, the project and
project partners to help guide development of the light rail station on Hayden
Island.
